I'd heard about this quite a while ago (it was one of the most anticipated doramas of the Autumn 2006 season), but I was skeptical. I have never liked classical music and I don't care much about orchestras. The idea of Ueno Juri and Endo Yuya appealed to me, but back then, Ueno Juri wasn't all that big for me (the way she is now, I guess, but I'll talk about her later). Anyway, I didn't realise there was so much crack involved. And you know me, I enjoy my crack. Not to mention the cast! Not only Juri and Yuya, but Hiroshi Tamaki and Eita and Takenaka Naoto! And a whole slew of others I've enjoyed from various other shows.

Anyway, I've been thinking, and well,

I ship this:

And of course, I ship this:

But can you blame me if I'm seeing the ultimate squee in this?!?!

THEY LOOK SO GHEI IT HURTS. Especially in that second picture -- don't you think Mine looks like he just wants to ravish Chiaki then and there?! O_O

Anyway, back to this:

Someone tell me they are canon. Or at least implied canon? Even if only in the manga version? Although it'd be awesome if they're all good in the dorama too, I feel sorry for Eita, who hardly ever gets the girl. When he and Nodame first met and he went "Kawaii~" I just shook my head, and said, "Poor Eita, once again, he's not going to get the girl again." But then the story went on and Mine (Eita's character) just went on to treat Nodame as a friend, and then I saw his interactions with Kiyora, and I thought, "Hmm, maybe."

Especially since they're such a secondary-shoujo-couple type. You know, those two characters in the background, usually sidekicks (or just good friends of the main OTP) who end up having a thing for each other? Yeah, they seem like that type of couple to me. So yeah, I'm shipping them ~ ♥

Oh, also:

Takenaka Naoto makes me happy. He is the source of SO. MUCH. CRACK. His Franz Strezemann is admittedly kind of creepy and disgusting and too pervy to be true (plus what is up with the overtanned face?!) but it's Takenaka Naoto! How can you not laugh when he's on your screen?!

And, of course

I'm not as in love with him as I was when I first saw him play Ryoma in TeniMyu, but he's still adorable. And also full of SO. MUCH. CRACK. Just like in Roketto Boisu ~ ♥

More points:

- I first saw Hiroshi Tamaki in Waterboys (which, as we all know, I love -- after I ran out of Nodame episodes I proceeded to rewatch said film for the umpteenth time, and until now, I continue to be amused) where he played Afro-Mole guy Sato. I liked him there, but Holy Cow, Sato is a dozen lightyears away from Shinichi Chiaki. For one, Chiaki has over-lipstick-ed dry lips and Sato has that huge absurd mole. Heh.

- As for Ueno Juri, I saw her first in Swing Girls (which is basically the female equivalent of Waterboys, except with Big Band instead of Synchro Swimming; and okay, she was also in Orange Days, but you abrely notice her there anyway) and I really enjoyed her there. Although I didn't exactly go around looking for stuff she's been in. And then a few days earlier I saw Engine, which also had her in the cast (as the oldest of the orphans, Misae), and I also enjoyed her there. And then I went on to watch Nodame Cantabile (but not before rewatching Swing Girls right before hee) and now I love her. ♥

- The manga did not interest me before but now I want it. And I will get my hands on it. Soon. ;)

On the other hand, I know everybody is also pretty much in love with Kurosagi and all (plus I know there's a whole YAY factor with Yamapi and Horikita Maki), and while I'm more or less enjoying it, I don't find myself going gaga over it. I can't bring myself to invest, which is sad, because on paper, it seems like the sort of thing I'd enjoy.

Urgh. I just realised, what with the music relations and all: I want a BECK live action dorama. Actually a live action movie would suffice, but a dorama would be awesome. But I guess a series would be difficult, esp if it bleeds over the American tour, so yes, I'd be happy with a movie ~ ♥

Which means, this is now the list of the manga I'd really really want to see a live action version of:

01. Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge (Perfect Girl Evolution) - I have lost count of how many time I've mentioned wanting to see a live action of this. Living, breathing Kyohei and Sunako! And Oda and Morii and Yuki and Noi. BUT! Kyohei nand Sunako! Rumors of a live action actually circulated the internet last year, but feh, it turns out they were false. Or are probably false since until now nothing has come about those rumors. :/

02. Lovely Complex - Yes, I know there's a movie. I've seen it and Teppei was fuck spot on as Otani. But I'd really have preferred a series. Even if it only ran for 9 episodes I would be ecstatic. I'd love to see the whole relationship actually develop, and with better pacing. And I wouldn't mind if Fujisawa Ema is replaced, but they better keep Teppei as Atsushi.

03. Koukou Debut - Shoujo manga make the best live action series. KD would make an awesome dorama, don't you think? Especially if the right people were cast. Although for some reason Nagasawa Masami keeps playing Haruna in my head. I don't know why. o_o

04. BECK - !!!!! Like I said above, a series is preferred, but a movie would suffice. Koyuki and Maho and Taira and Sakurai and Chiba, and okay, fine, Ryusuke too -- in flesh and blood! And I know for sure the soundtrack would be awesome. (Although, despite the initial disappointment at Koyuki's voice, I already fell in love with the anime OST so it'd be hard to top that, I guess.)

05. Hanazakari no Kimitachi e - Except, you know, a Japanese adaptation this time around. ^^; (A Japanese adapation of Akuma de Sourou, then, would be something I'd also enjoy.)

06. Random Walk - !!! Or maybe Mint na Bokura? Any Yoshizumi Wataru title come to life would make me squee with joy -- and yes, I've seen the Taiwanese Marmalade Boy adaptation. This'd make the most interesting dorama though. For those who want to know, Random Walk is basically, uh, Clueless (but not so much Jane Austen's Emma), except Japanese.

07. Meitantei Conan - With an actual chibi Conan! I love Oguri Shun, but come on! Why make a Detective Conan LA adaptation only to NOT HAVE the little kid on?! Plus I also want there to be an Ai if they ever do this. You all should know how much I love Ai. Even more than I love Ran, who, actually, I don't really love. I actually don't care much for her come think of it. But Ai, I LOVE.

08. Aishiteruze Baby - Which remains one of my absolute favorites, and is the reason why I continue to stack up on Yoko Maki titles. Kippei and Kokoro and Yuzu-chan in flesh and blood? LOVE. I can even see in my head how the episodes would progress!

09. W-Pinch - !!!! Would make an interesting, funny dorama. There is SO. MUCH. CRACK. To be had if they ever tried adapting it. XD

10. I'll/Generation Basket - Well, not so much now as I think I'm more or less over this manga. But, you know, if they made a live action version, I'd definitely check it out. Although they probably won't make Hiiragi/Akane canon which just blows. Feh. >:p

10. Kareshi Kanojou no Jijyou - If only for Tonami and Sakura ~ ♥

How about you, which of your favorite manga would you want to see live action versions of?

Your screencaps look extra lovely! May I save them?

Mine/Kiyora is canon. You'll see and squee and maybe even feel your heart move a little because of them. I lovelovelove them to pieces, they're one of my absolute fave secondary pairings.. I'm actually always huge on secondary pairings but especially these two because they just have the awesomest thing going and eee, I don't wanna spoil you so I won't ramble.

You know, I'm the biggest fan of m/m I know - well, almost anyway - and I really didn't see Mine/Chiaki. I only noted it after people pointed it out. Though now that I've done some rewatching, yeaaah, Mine is sort of ghei for Chiaki. But who isn't?! If I was male, I would be, too.

This drama is just SO well-made, I swear to god. Also, like, the manga is about music and obviously for anything about music, the audio-visual format is more ideal. I don't like classical much, not enough to listen to it on my freetime anyway, but after this drama I had to get my hands on Beethoven's 7th (S Oke concert piece!!) and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (ending song). And the comedy and the acting.. Everything works. Period. It's just amazing.

I don't like the style of the manga but I am so in love with the characters I might read some of it just for that. The same thing happened with the Taiwanese drama of Hana Kimi - I read the manga purely because I'd fallen in love with the charas on the drama.

I second not going gaga over Kurosagi. Then again, not a Yamapi fan over here so that basically does it. Maki is adorable, though.

YOU MAKE ME HAPPY. I thought maybe I was a bit trying too hard to see Mine/Kiyora, but apparently my canon pair senses were working it. I'm really really happy because everytime I saw them two interacting I felt like I could ship them even more than I ship Chiaki/Nodame and I'm happy that something actually happens.

That's actually kind of funny, because I don't care much for slash, but that scene just made me go "WHUT." Eita/Mine's expression shows it all!!

I am really really REALLY enjoying the dorama. I tried th manga out before, but didn't get through the first chapter, although now I don't remember why. I think I tried it out at a time when I wasn't in the mood for reading manga? I want to try it out again, because this dorama has me really investing in the characters and the story.

I'm not a Yamapi fan either, and I assumed maybe that's why I'm not head over heels Kurosagi. I wasn't a Maki fan before either, in NwP, but yes, I like her here.
